General information
Hvar is a famous island on the Croatian part of the Adriatic coast. The town of Hvar assumed its present outlook in the Renaissance but its history goes back to Greek settlers. The present Croatian name of Hvar derives from the Greek `Pharos’. The town is located in an attractive surrounding and the climate in September/October is mild and pleasant. The main tourist season ends by the end of August, and by the begining of October the place is very quiet and suitable for a scientific meeting.
The nearest international airport is Split, from which there are numerous connections to the harbour of Hvar. The ferry-boat (see Jadrolinija web site) takes about 2 hours and the speed-boat takes 30 min. The bus service from the harbour to the hotel is provided.
